About the Parish
Welcome to our Parish Website (still under development), we hope you will find its contents helpful and informative.
Parish Councils were first set up under the Local Government Act 1894 – Bestwood St. Albans Parish is in the Borough of Gedling and the County of Nottinghamshire; bordering Nottingham City Council and Ashfield District Council.
Parish Councils are the first tier of local government and act as a voice for the parish on major issues. Parish elections are held every four years and Bestwood St. Albans Parish consists of 9 unpaid members; 5 of which represent the Top Valley Ward and 4 representing the Village Ward; serving a population of 3,960 (2011). The Council is supported by one part time Parish Clerk.
Meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday of the month, but can be subject to change. There is a fifteen minute session set aside during the meetings whereby members of the public may address the Council on any issue, over which it has a power. Members of the public are always made welcome. An Annual Parish Meeting is held each year in April.
